Abstract

This text aims to analyze aspects that configure lessons of architectural praxis contained in narratives about the design work of architects whose productions are references in the field of contemporary architecture. This is a qualitative research with a content analysis approach, from a dialectical perspective. It analyzes testimonies of architects Mendes da Rocha, Aldo Rossi and Álvaro Siza, using as basic sources the so-called books of architects. As theoretical support, the theory of praxis of Pierre Bourdeiu and of architectural theorists such as Montaner and Benévolo were used, in addition to the conceptions/theories of design defended by Mendes da Rocha Rossi. As findings of the research, aspects of theories on spatiality, forms and design processes can be indicated that reveal important elements of the way of doing and thinking about architecture of these three architects. This investigation aims to provoke discussions and provide elements to broaden reflections on design praxis and training. Among the conclusive aspects, it was possible to list in the architectural praxis lessons some indications of possible paths in the search for design solutions, which, although they have subjective variables, can be rationally assimilated and transmissible. Among the lessons, reflections on the influences of the context and the family in the analyzed narratives stand out. Added to these is the defense of the architect's adaptation to the multidisciplinary environment, as a consequence of high-tech construction projects. Another lesson is the willingness to work in a team, which requires leadership and the ability to dialogue in the definition of solutions. Finally, the analysis of the testimonies reveals that the design practices, that is, the design praxis and its impact on the city, are part of a context and the worldview of these architects, as a result of their life and training.
